Concept — validating demand

✓ Works today

  • Playable web prototype is live at https://tool.teamzlab.com/games/poker-trainer-private-tables/ with Train, Play Table, LAN Host, and Review tabs.
  • Trainer prototype includes scored Texas Holdem decisions, Poker IQ, streaks, explanations, and localStorage progress.
  • Free-chip local table prototype includes shuffled hands, blinds, betting actions, folded/all-in states, community cards, showdown evaluation, and side-pot settlement.
  • LAN host manifest prototype generates a native-app payload and pokertrainer:// deep link for cached app-to-app handoff.
  • Validated ASO direction from local automation: broad Texas Holdem is red ocean; poker trainer, poker quiz, poker with friends, and poker puzzle are more winnable.
  • Core multiplayer Texas Holdem engine specification exists, including blinds, betting rounds, side pots, all-in states, hand evaluation, disconnect timeouts, and audit trails.
  • Product positioning is defined: Train, Play, Compete, Review - not beginner-only, and not a real-money gambling app.
  • Offline/online mode split is defined: solo training and bot practice work offline; private rooms work online; LAN host mode works on local Wi-Fi or hotspot.
  • Trust model is scoped for LAN mode: one device hosts the table, with future verifiable shuffle using player-contributed seeds.

Why I'm building this

Flutter developer at Teamz Lab - mobile app prototype lead

Most poker apps force one of two paths: casino-style multiplayer with chips and pressure, or dry training drills that stop being useful once you learn the rules. I want this app to sit in the useful middle.

The product starts with skill. A player opens the app, answers real Texas Holdem decisions, gets a Poker IQ score, and sees why a call, fold, raise, or check was better. Beginners can learn hand rankings and pot odds, but the page is not built only for beginners. If someone already knows poker, the promise is sharper: prove it, find leaks, and compete with friends.

The second half is play. Your multiplayer engine makes private Texas Holdem tables possible, but we should avoid real-money scope at launch. Free chips, private rooms, friend leagues, and local game-night tables are enough to validate retention without regulatory risk.

The most interesting differentiator is offline LAN host mode. One phone becomes the table host. Friends join over the same Wi-Fi or a phone hotspot by scanning a QR code. No internet required once the app and table config are cached. That gives the app a reason to exist even for people who already know poker: they can host a clean private table anywhere.

Frequently asked questions

Is this only a poker learning app?
No. The app has three jobs: train with poker quiz scenarios, play private Texas Holdem rooms with friends, and review your mistakes after hands. Beginners learn the game; experienced players test their Poker IQ and find leaks.
Why would someone install this if they already know poker?
Because the hook is not "learn the rules." The hook is "prove your poker IQ, beat today's hand, find your leaks, and host a private table anywhere." This is closer to chess puzzles plus private chess rooms than a basic rules guide.
Does it work offline?
Training works offline after the app and lesson/scenario pack are cached. Hand rankings, poker quiz, pot odds drills, preflop decisions, and bot practice can run without internet. Online leaderboards and cloud sync still need a connection.
Can friends play without internet?
Yes, that is the planned LAN host mode. One phone hosts the table server over local Wi-Fi or a phone hotspot. Other phones join by QR code or room code. They connect to the host phone's local network address, not localhost.
Can friends play online too?
Yes. The planned online mode supports private free-chip rooms, invite links, friend leagues, and daily challenge rankings. LAN mode is for same-room play without internet; online mode is for remote friends.
Is this a real-money poker app?
No. The launch scope is free-chip/social poker and training. No deposits, no withdrawals, no rake, no cash-out, and no real-money gambling. That keeps the product focused on skill, private rooms, and retention validation.
How does the Poker IQ score work?
Each quiz hand asks for a decision: fold, check, call, raise, or all-in. The app scores the decision using simple strategy rules first - position, pot odds, hand strength, stack size, and board texture. Later versions can add solver-backed or seed-backed scoring.
Can the app explain my mistake?
That is a core feature. After a hand, the app should explain things like "you called 40% pot with too little equity", "your fold was good because the board favored the raiser", or "you missed value with top pair against a capped range."
Is local host mode fair if one phone hosts the deck?
The first prototype can run trusted host mode for friends. A later fairness upgrade should use verifiable shuffle: every player contributes a random seed, the deck is generated from combined seeds, and proof is revealed after the hand.
What keywords is this built around?
The SEO/ASO direction is poker trainer, poker quiz, poker training app, poker with friends, private poker room, poker puzzle, and Texas Holdem. Generic online poker and free poker have higher volume but much stronger incumbents.
